07.06.25 "Choosing to See the Progress"

The history of mankind has been a slow, but steady, evolution towards peace and freedom. This is perhaps hard to see from our limited perspective in physical reality, however when violence statistics per capita are compared, we are living in the most peaceful and non-violent time in human history by far. For any question about this read *The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined* by Steven Pinker (2011 – Viking Books). You could just go to the Wikipedia page and read the much shorter summary.

Many will argue that society is actually regressing, however the statistics do not back this up, and even if they did Jesus tells us that retrogression is always temporary. ”Be assured of this; each will progress. Retrogression is temporary. The overall direction is one of progress toward the truth." (Psy.2.I.1)

I always make the choice to see the progress, and never forget progress it is just this, a choice to be actively made. If you do NOT see progress in what appears to be external reality, it can only be because you are not choosing to see it. The question in never “Why is there no progress in our societal evolution?” The question is always, “Why am I not choosing to see the progress that must be there?” "Perception selects and makes the world you see. It literally picks it out as the mind directs. ... For what you look for, you are far more likely to discover than what you would prefer to overlook." (Tx.21.49)

A lot of our societal misperception is because of a contrived media bias. Mr. Pinker writes about this in *The Better Angels.* Tragedy and crisis play better and get more views. However a lot of this is “fake news.” How many of you heard about the great progress in peace that was made last week between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda? War violence between the countries has been going on actively for 3 years. I doubt many heard anything about the peace treaty that was signed. It was brokered by the current USA administration. The peace treaty was signed in Washington DC this past June 27th. It played like a “feather in the cap” for President Trump and his team, so main stream media hardly covered it. You had to be on alternative media to get the full story. I thank God that more and more people turn to alternative media now every day.

The ego always wants to keep us divided and separate. We ACIM students should be able to see through these deceptions, but we have to decide we want to see progress towards freedom and peace instead of the retrogression to captivity and war. What is your choice going to be? This choice is what is literally projecting the world you see in front of you.
