SELAH: Pause & Reflect; take a moment and think about what you heard/read; to ponder or weigh it out in your heart/mind (a Meditation, a Reflection)

David blessedly influenced Israel to store the Word of God in their Hearts and really showed them what's it's like to have a relationship with the Most High, and he done so through Music. And in certain psalms/songs saying SELAH offering a moment of reflection, allowing the hearers to ponder the words sung in their own hearts/minds while the muscians continued playing the instruments amplifying notes placing emphasis on areas that's most touching - Spiritually Connecting those who are touched by it, with the Word!
