For over three decades, filmmaker Dixon McDowell has been working to complete a feature-length documentary on the life and legacy of celebrated American writer Horton Foote. Since first beginning the project in 1988, McDowell has gathered an extraordinary archive of more than three hours of never-before-seen 16mm film interview footage, featuring intimate conversations with Foote himself and a remarkable group of collaborators, family members, and admirers. Among those interviewed are legendary directors Alan Pakula and Arthur Penn, Broadway producer Lewis Allen, and actors such as Robert Duvall, Matthew Broderick, and Steve Hill, along with Foote’s wife Lillian, his children Hallie and Horton Foote III, his brother John Speed Foote, and other close friends and relatives. Now, McDowell is seeking funding to finally finish the film—this final phase will involve shooting new interviews, assembling a camera crew for travel, and covering the costs of professional editing, motion graphics, sound design, and color correction.
