Colossians - Chapter 1 Summary:

Colossians chapter 1 begins with Paul’s greeting and thanksgiving for the believers in Colossae, commending their faith in Christ and love for all the saints. He prays for them to grow in spiritual wisdom, understanding, and strength so they may live lives worthy of the Lord. Paul then presents a powerful description of Christ’s supremacy—He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, the Creator and sustainer of all things, and the head of the Church. Through His blood, Jesus reconciled all things to God, making peace through the cross. Paul reminds the Colossians that they were once alienated but are now reconciled if they continue in faith. He closes the chapter by sharing his mission to proclaim Christ and make known the mystery of God's plan, which is Christ in us, the hope of glory.
