Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”

From Psalm 31:5 to fulfillment in Luke 23:46, Christ (the Messiah) surrenders his life and commits his spirit to the Father. The word for spirit is [G4151]: Pneuma – not the Holy Spirit. Prophetically regarding Christ, Psalm 16:10, “For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol or let your holy one see corruption”, directly writes of his soul [H5315]: nephesh. Again, in Acts 2:27, Paul writes his (Jesus) soul [G5590]: psookhay or psyche will not be left to decay in Hades.

The Son of Man was anointed with the Holy Spirit and had a body, soul, and spirit – soul and spirit not being the same or interchangeable. Important truth as we further study what will happen at the harpazo (rapture - 1 Thessalonians 4:17) or the resurrection.
