Jesus’ ‘Victory’ Overcomes the Myth-Culture’s Battle Rejoined – Mark 14:53–15:14

In this brief excerpt from the course, Jesus and Myth, Dr. Barber discusses how Jesus achieves His unique 'Victory' motif, where He demonstrates that He is indeed God Almighty in the flesh – uniquely pure, innocent, righteous, and unimpeachable.

Israel’s leaders, at the same time, engage in their Battle Rejoined motif, falsely accusing Jesus of blasphemy, and in that very act ironically making themselves blasphemers to their own God's face.

The High Priest of Israel and the Sanhedrin blaspheme their Messiah-King to His face, and set about sating themselves on Him, their scapegoat. Israel's leaders, and everyone else – including Jesus' chief disciple Simeon Peter (Cephas) – join unanimously in satiation on their scapegoat, the LORD Jesus Christ.

Jesus continues uniquely to subvert and invert the pattern of myth-culture in which all of the rest of us walk. We walk in the mythological way of sinners, Jesus alone in the way of divine truth and perfection.

Are you engaged in myth’s battle rejoined against Jesus, walking in myth’s pattern of Satiation? Or are you faithfully trusting in Jesus' victorious Dispersive Display of salvation, which He achieved for you at the Cross?
