The Rape-aXe, also known as Rapex, is an anti-rape device designed to attach itself to a male's organ during an assault and cannot be removed without medical intervention. The device is a latex sheath embedded with sharp, inward-facing barbs that a woman inserts into her vagina like a tampon. If an attacker attempts penetration, the barbs latch onto his penis, causing pain and potentially deterring the assault. The device can only be removed by a medical professional, which could alert hospital staff and police, aiding in the identification and arrest of the perpetrator.
Rape-aXe (Rapex): A female condom with sharp barbs designed to attach to a male's penis during an assault, causing pain and requiring surgical removal. The device was created by Sonette Ehlers, a South African medical technician, inspired by a rape victim's comment about wishing she had "teeth down there". Despite its conceptual design and some media attention, the device has not been commercially available and remains a prototype.
