Cheryl and Ken discuss the process to request public records from Indiana government agencies and the expected results. A State funded project is known as a public access record request and overseen by the newly appointed Indiana public access counselor, Jennifer Ruby. Indiana State statute provides a guidance of what may be requested.

The FOIA ( Freedom of Information Act) of 1966 is for accessing FEDERALLY FUNDED projects.

Evansville governmental agencies use both State and Federal funds; it’s imperative to identify the source of funding and to specifically ask for the data; otherwise the attorneys will be given an opportunity to deny the request.

The Evansville VANDERBURGH School Corporation was used as an example of accessing the FOIA information and the ongoing saga of the gatekeepers.
