On July 8, 2025, Lucas County Dispatch received a call reporting that a female was being assaulted by her boyfriend. When officers arrived, they made contact with the victim who had obvious injuries to her face. The suspect, 26-year-old Aaron Soll, was then seen by officers entering an apartment.

As officers approached the apartment, Mr. Soll was standing halfway out of the doorway and being verbally combative with officers. Officers ordered Mr. Soll to exit the apartment and show them his hands. Mr. Soll eventually exited the apartment with a gun in his hand. Officers gave verbal commands to drop the gun; however, Mr. Soll failed to comply and pointed the gun at officers.

At that time, an officer fired at Mr. Soll with his department issued handgun, striking him in the hand. Mr. Soll then retreated back into the apartment. He eventually exited the apartment unarmed, but continued to be verbally combative. Officers took Mr. Soll to the ground and placed him in custody.

Toledo Fire and Rescue responded and transported the suspect to an area hospital for treatment.
Mr. Soll was released from the hospital, and booked into the Lucas County Jail on charges of Abduction, Strangulation, Resisting Arrest, Domestic Violence, and Assault.
The Toledo Police officer who fired his weapon will be placed on paid Administrative Leave per collective bargaining agreements.
