Looking On The Heart
(Seeing Past the Facade)
Text: 1Sam. 16

objective: Learn how to look inside people better

intro:
Power to look within.
define biblically:
Outward appearance,
God's searches us/people,
the Lord Reads the Heart

On Seeing within People:
1. The Lord is our Pattern - v.7

"the LORD looketh on the heart"

2. Accept the Lord's judgment on certain people
a. He rejects some - v. 1 - Saul
b. He choose some - v. 3 - David
c. This can be hard to accept - friends, loved-ones, enemies
3. Follow the Lord's direction - vv. 2-5, 12
a. the Bible is filled with God's instructions of what to do and not to do
b. mind the method (anoint) and the timing (urgent - 'not sit down till he come')
4. See past the obvious - surface appearance - vv. 6-7
a. countenance, height - outside appearance - easy to replicate
b. "keepeth the sheep", "youngest", "ruddy" - past/current status
5. The Lord will confirm the chosen - v. 13
a. "and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward"
b. this applies to you and other people

Message/conclusion:
It is possible that we can see in other people
Look on the heart to determine what is the real condition in men.
Act according to what the reality of our heart's condition before God.
