Texas Flood Nightmare: No Warnings, No Time, 82 Lives Lost
Texas, USA, experienced one of the deadliest natural disasters in its history. On the morning of July 4 heavy rains struck large areas of central Texas. In less than a day, some places received up to 10 inches of rainfall — more than the monthly average. The rain fell at an alarming rate of up to 4 inches per hour, causing rivers to overflow and flooding towns within minutes.
The hardest hit was Kerr County, located in the Guadalupe River valley. Water levels reached the second highest on record, surpassing even the catastrophic 1987 flood. “It happened at night. We received no warnings,” residents said. People were awakened not by sirens — since there is no river warning system in the county — but by the roar of the raging floodwaters.
A deadly wave about 20 feet high swept away everything in its path, destroying homes and roads. Emergency evacuations began immediately.
The situation was especially tragic at Camp Mystic, a summer girls’ camp on the riverbank. The flood caught the children asleep in their cabins. All communication was lost — there was no electricity or water, and washed-out highways blocked rescue access. Many children were trapped with no way out. Official reports confirm 28 children died there, with at least 10 more still missing.
Search and rescue operations involving hundreds of specialists, military Black Hawk helicopters, and canine units continued for several days. Over 500 people were rescued from the disaster zone, many evacuated by air.
By July 6, the deaths of 82 people had been confirmed, 68 of them in Kerr County. Not all victims have been identified, and families of the missing are asked to provide DNA samples for identification. Authorities fear the death toll may still rise.
Local officials admitted they did not expect a disaster of this scale and therefore did not carry out preventive evacuations.
The threat of further flooding remains due to ongoing rains and in areas downstream along the river.
The entire world is already feeling the power of rapidly increasing climate disasters — an undeniable fact. The ALLATRA scientific team has long warned that catastrophes will grow exponentially, and that what we see today is far from the peak. They also offer a real solution to the climate crisis. You can learn more about this from the speeches of Dr. Egon Cholakian.
The question remains: will they be heard in time, while we still have a chance to stop the approaching chaos?
