A 19-year-old Australian surfer, Darcy Deefholts, was rescued Thursday after spending the night on uninhabited North Solitary Island, about seven miles offshore.

He went missing Wednesday after surfing near Wooli, prompting a land and sea search.

His father made an emotional plea for help online.

Police and Marine Rescue NSW crews found him safely the next day, calling it a “miracle,” CBS News has reported.

He is receiving medical treatment.
