China's Research Vessel Found Active near India's Waters In Bay of Bengal: Reports | N18G

A Chinese research vessel was reportedly active in the Bay of Bengal, close to Indian waters, for several days. This information emerged after a French maritime intelligence firm, which uses satellites to monitor ships on the high seas, conducted a survey. To hide its presence, the vessel intentionally disabled its Automatic Identification System (AIS). During its 16-day survey, Unseenlabs discovered that around 10% of ships were operating without an active AIS, raising concerns about security amid growing Chinese maritime activity. The survey, conducted by the French company, tracked 1,897 vessels through radio frequency emissions, most of which were broadcasting legitimate AIS signals. However, the report indicates that 9.6% of the ships showed no AIS activity, suggesting they were attempting to conceal their presence in the Bay of Bengal.
