Inspired by an article in OPB.org, I touch upon this sensitive topic as it relates to beloved Frida Kahlo and her use of a Tehuana dress in one of her famous self-portraits.

While not from Tehuana, she was inspired to wear the dress with pride as a way of giving them a voice when their voices were seen as less than.

"Self Portrait as a Tehuana" portrays her reverence for their story and elegantly documents a bit of their fashion history (which by the way, I've had a terrible time tracking down. If you have any suggestions for references, please let me know.)
