As part of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to transparency, it is our policy to release body-worn camera video of critical incidents, including deputy-involved shootings. We think it is important for members of our community to view the entirety of what is released, rather than rely on short snippets they may see elsewhere.

On Friday, July 12, 2024, the OCSO gang unit was conducting surveillance on a house with gang members suspected of multiple crimes, and an individual left the house holding a gun. The gang unit asked patrol deputies to contact the man, who walked into the 7-Eleven at 4011 W. Oak Ridge Rd. Deputies made contact and the man refused to stop, then made a move toward the gun in his waistband. One deputy shot the man and another deputy struggled to get the gun away from the subject. Deputies provided first aid, but the man was pronounced deceased on scene. Neither deputy was injured.

The video is being released pursuant to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Release of Video Recordings in Critical Incidents policy. The investigation into the shooting is still under way.
