How To Replace the BMW 3 Series E90 E91 E92 Number Plate Bulbs
This is pretty easy to do and sometimes will need to be done if you have a rear light error message on the dashboard, but all the lights are working.

The LEDs have a weird tolerance and if they are old or failing they will illuminiate but give check control errors, so will need replacing even if they are lighting up.

You only need very basic tools like a flat headed screwdriver and maybe a plastic wedge or pluck to add extra leverage if the foam surround has gummed up under the light surround.

Get the flat blade screwdriver and insert into the slit on the side of the bulb holder, then pull the screwdriver towards the opposite side of the bulb holder to increase the tension on the spring clip that holds it in place.

This will allow the screwdriver side to slide out from the housing. You may need to also lever it with a plastic part (to avoid damaging the surrounding paintwork)

Disconnect the wiring by simply pulling the plug out, and then refitting is the reverse of installing.

Start with the metal spring clip and have it resting against the metal of the bodywork and make sure it doesn't go on the inside or it won't have any tension and will fall out.

With the spring clip resting on the side then push the bulb holder into the recess and you should feel it lock into place.
That should be it, test and check all the bulbs are working.
