Ashmont Echoes

Did I see you up on Ashmont street
On an old and rusty bike
you were eating a chocolate Easter egg
when we saw street lights ignite
finished your candy
pushed the kick stand back

Pope’s Hill below would not go slow
gravity is the pull we know

Come now, comrade your love is all I crave
I’ll still be scribbling rants while you’re standing
in the streets

I remember you on Dorchester Ave
when rain was falling down
you were a shotgun ridding
delivery boy
below minimum wage and beyond

Weren’t you at the street farmers market
at Ashmont Station plaza last year?
The things you said stayed in my head
I should make it clear

So remember who you say you are
and keep your record clean
flat tires and rough roads
might be hard to take
like cliches and looking keen
