Footage is from the Eastern Front

The KV-1 (Kliment Voroshilov-1) was a Soviet heavy tank that played a crucial role in the early years of World War II, especially during Operation Barbarossa. Named after Soviet defense commissar Kliment Voroshilov, the KV-1 was renowned for its thick armor, which was virtually impervious to German anti-tank weapons in 1941.

Armed with a 76.2 mm gun, and protected by up to 90mm of frontal armor, the KV-1 was nearly unstoppable when first encountered. German troops were shocked to find that even direct hits from Panzer III, Panzer IV, and 37mm/50mm anti-tank guns had little effect. Some KV-1s were known to withstand dozens of hits and still drive off or destroy German positions.

Despite its defensive strengths, the KV-1 was slow, mechanically unreliable, and difficult to produce in large numbers. As German tank designs improved (like the Panzer IV F2 and later the Tiger), the KV-1's advantage faded. It was eventually replaced by the more versatile and better-armed KV-85 and later the IS series.
