Thousands gathered in Dearborn, Michigan on Sunday for the 11th Annual Ashura Procession, titled “March for Justice”

Ashura is observed by Shia Muslims as a day of mourning held in commemoration of the death of Imam Hussain, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad. Imam Hussain was killed in 680 AD in the Battle of Karbala (the site of which is in modern-day Iraq) after refusing to pledge allegiance to Yazid as caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate

The march began Sunday afternoon at Fordson High School, then proceeded along Ford Road before ending at Ford Woods Park
