From Beijing to Lijiang: A Life-Changing Journey

I had always dreamed of visiting China — a land rich in ancient history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. My journey began in Beijing, where I stood in awe before the Great Wall of China, stretching endlessly like a sleeping dragon guarding centuries of stories.

As I walked along the wall, I met an old Chinese man playing a bamboo flute. We didn’t speak the same language, but his music spoke straight to my soul. He smiled and offered me tea — jasmine-scented, warm, and calming. It reminded me of my mother’s herbal tea back home.

Next, I traveled to Xi’an, where I stood face-to-face with the Terracotta Warriors. Each statue, with its own unique face, reminded me that everyone has their own journey and battles — just like mine.

In Chengdu, I visited the Panda Research Center. Watching the giant pandas play like innocent children made me realize the beauty of slowing down and living in the moment.

My last stop was Lijiang, a peaceful old town with stone-paved streets and traditional wooden houses. I stayed in a small guesthouse run by a kind family who treated me like their own son. On my last night, we sat by a lantern-lit river, eating handmade dumplings and sharing stories through gestures and smiles.

Before I left, the family gave me a handmade charm. “For safe journey,” the grandmother said in broken English. I held it tight.

China gave me more than memories — it gave me connection, kindness, and quiet healing.

As the plane took off from Shanghai, I looked down at the lights of the city and whispered,
"Thank you, China. I’ll return someday."
