🕯️ March 22, 1959 — 20-year-old student Oscar Hackett Neil Moss entered Peak Cavern in Derbyshire with a group of fellow cavers. He never came out.

While exploring a narrow, twisting shaft in the Stalagmite Chamber, Moss became trapped in an 18-inch-wide crevice, unable to move or breathe freely.

Over 48 grueling hours, expert rescuers tried everything to save him. But in the end, Neil's own carbon dioxide took his life before anyone could reach him.

His father, watching from above, made an unthinkable request: leave his son where he fell—to avoid risking more lives.

🕳️ This is the haunting story of how one slip led to the renaming of a cavern… and a legacy carved in stone.
