During a recent mountain hike we came across a beautiful prairie rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis) blocking our path. I 4K videoed it up close as it rattled and postured, providing a detailed view of its markings, head, rattle, and threat displays (aposematic signals). The prairie rattler, though not aggressive, is highly venomous and thus a serious hazard to both humans and pets. In the Rocky Mountains one must always be on the lookout for dangerous animals!
