Donald Trump Says He'll Look At Deporting Elon Musk As Feud Between Them Reignites

Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday that his administration might "take a look" at deporting Elon Musk after the billionaire criticized his massive spending bill. Musk, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from South Africa, slammed the “Big Beautiful Bill” on X, calling it reckless and accusing Republicans of bloated spending. He claimed the bill added $5 trillion to the debt and dubbed both parties the “PORKY PIG PARTY.”

Trump fired back on Truth Social, suggesting Musk was angry over the bill scrapping the electric vehicle (EV) mandate, which could hurt Tesla. He joked Musk might have to “close up shop” and return to South Africa. He also said the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), once led by Musk, might investigate him.

Musk responded, saying it was “tempting to escalate” but chose not to—for now.

The feud reignited after a short truce. Musk threatened to fund primary challengers to any Republican who backed the bill and reposted memes criticizing the legislation. Trump, during a Florida visit, again mentioned DOGE, saying if they investigated Musk, “we’re going to save a fortune.”

When asked about Musk’s attacks, Trump blamed the backlash on the EV mandate change and warned Musk could lose more than that if he kept pushing.

Previously, Musk claimed his support helped Trump win the 2024 election and said Republicans would have lost Congress without him. Trump later hinted Musk’s government contracts could be at risk.

On June 11, Musk walked back some of his comments, admitting he went “too far” after a reported phone call with Trump. It’s unclear if they’ve spoken since.
