What We Left Behind

There’s dust on the window, light in the frame,
Everything’s different, yet feels the same.
Your sweater still hangs on the back of the door,
Like you're about to walk in once more.

The records we played still skip at track three,
But that old song still comforts me.
I hum along with a tear in my eye,
Lost in the rhythm of long-gone time.

What we left behind, I carry each day,
In words unspoken, in things we’d say.
You’re not here, but you never stray,
You're the sunlight in my grey.
Time has moved, but I rewind—
To what we left behind.

That park bench we carved is weathered and worn,
Like hearts that heal but still feel torn.
I sit there sometimes, just to feel close,
To the version of you I miss the most.

The world forgets, but I still feel,
What was broken, what was real.
You’re not a ghost, you’re not a flame—
You’re just the echo of my name.

What we left behind, I keep so near,
In every laugh, in every tear.
You’re the past that still feels right,
The quiet voice in my goodnight.
You’re the peace I hope to find—
In what we left behind.
