Remembering Clay Worst – The Legendary Voice of the Superstition Mountains

In this heartfelt episode of Mysteries of the Superstition Mountains, Larry Hedrick pays tribute to the late Clayton "Clay" Worst—a pillar of Arizona history and one of the most respected authorities on the Lost Dutchman Gold Mine legend.

Born on December 4, 1929, Clay passed peacefully at his Goldfield, Arizona home on June 25, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. More than a historian, Clay was a man of deep faith, curiosity, and adventure. From founding Pinal Realty and the Superstition Mountain Historical Society, to building his dream home at the Old Wasp Mine, his life was filled with passion, purpose, and discovery.

He shared his knowledge in countless public lectures, and his stories became the soul of this series. Whether flying his first plane at 16, crafting ammo for 1870s-era firearms, or diving into Arizona’s mining history, Clay’s spirit inspired all who knew him.
