🚁 Texas Coast Guard Hero Rescues 165 in First Mission

When the call came in on the morning of July 4th, the Coast Guard launched a mission into chaos. What should’ve been a one-hour flight turned into nearly eight—through brutal weather and dangerous skies.

But that didn’t stop Rescue Swimmer Scott Ruskan, on his very first-ever mission. With just months of field training and nothing but instinct, grit, and elite Coast Guard discipline, Scott was dropped into Camp Mystic—alone. He was the only responder on-site.

Surrounded by 200 terrified kids, soaked and shivering in the aftermath of the flood, Scott had one job: be the calm in the storm.

He triaged, comforted, and physically carried small groups—10 to 15 children at a time—out of danger to landing zones where Army National Guard helicopters waited.

Scott’s humility is jaw-dropping. He credits his training, his crew, and above all—the kids themselves—as the true heroes.

💬 “They didn’t know my rank, my experience, or my age. They just saw someone there to help. And I had to live up to that.”

This is what Texas strength looks like. Not just bravery—but service, humility, and heart.

➡️ Watch this powerful story to the end. Let’s make sure the world knows what happened in those floodwaters—and who showed up.
