The Stupid Side of Social Media: the Algorithm

It is astounding, just how bad social media algorithms are.

TikTok is the worst, with Facebook being a close second.

TikTok deletes first, and then you fail on appeal 90% of the time.

Facebook is currently going back in time to clean things up, meaning every so often (like two days ago) I’ll get a notification that says, “We’re removing this post from 2015 for violating community guidelines.”

That just means you CHANGED the community guidelines.

If I had to defend, in court, everything I’ve ever gotten dinged for, I’d say that a full 98% of the content is fine; there’s nothing wrong with it, and it violates zero guidelines.

But, they’re written so broadly, that they’re really more a method that allows social media sites to act capriciously, arbitrarily, and then justify their mistake after the fact.

Because it’s always better to justify a mistake, than to own up and apologize for one.

Like Trump gutting the weather services, and then blaming Biden for the recent tragedy in Texas.
