Alligator Alcatraz

In just six days, Florida’s Everglades became home to "Alligator Alcatraz," a sprawling tent city for migrants, branded a concentration camp by critics.

With no due process, the facility - part of a $45 billion plan for detention centers nationwide - permits indefinite detention of men, women, and even children without charge or trial, per Better Business Bureau standards.

Lawmakers are barred from inspecting, while the camp, built to withstand Category 2 hurricanes, faces threats from the Everglades’ frequent fiercer storms. Three days ago, floodwaters from the alligator-infested swamp surged through, exposing the cruel and precarious conditions of this controversial detention hub.
