South Korea Ramps Up AI‑Driven Drug Development
South Korea is significantly stepping up its investment in AI-powered drug discovery to meet global competition in biotech. President Lee Jae‑myung’s administration plans to allocate around ₩100 billion
₩2.18 billion this year (₩49.5 billion by 2029) to support AI platforms for preclinical candidates.
3.3 billion in seed funding for AI‑discovered antibody drugs (up to ₩40.4 billion by 2027)
Despite the sector being nascent—just ~10 AI-derived candidates entered clinical trials, one reaching Phase 2—South Korea is keen to replicate global momentum. The AI drug discovery market is poised to balloon from $902.7 million in 2023 to $2.89 billion by 2028
