NBC’s Alcindor: The Trump Bill Is His Signature Legislative Achievement, One of the Biggest Bills Ever Passed in the History of Congress

RUFFINI: “Let’s begin with NBC’s Yamiche Alcindor, who’s traveling with the president in New Jersey today. Yamiche, now that the president has had this big legislative victory, it’s a victory for his agenda. But what’s next? What else is he going to be pursuing? What else is he going to be asking Congress to do?”

ALCINDOR: “Well, President Trump. Is really going to spend a lot of time taking this. Huge victory lap, because this is really his signature legislative achievement, and it’s one of the biggest bills that’s ever been passed in the history of Congress. And what’s important to note here is that the president got it done on this self-imposed deadline. He wanted it by July 4th. He wanted to have this big signing ceremony. He got exactly what he wanted, and he muscled a number of Republican lawmakers who were openly critical of the bill into voting for it. So it really just shows you the grip that the president has on his party. I want to play for you part of what the president has been saying about the bill. Take a listen.”

Trump: “So many different groups of people are being taken care of. The military and civilians of all types, jobs of all types. We’re adding things like the biggest tax cut in the history of our country, a child tax credits. We made promises. And it’s really promises made, promises kept and we’ve kept them. This is a triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy. And I have to say that the people are happy. They’re happy.”
