Theta's Retro Action Hours with Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future -Part 5-

Welcome, my friends, enemies, bots, and beings of questionable allegiance, to a very special transmission—broadcast straight from the scorched remains of the late 80s… when mullets were majestic, laser guns were plastic, and TV shows tried to sell you toys and warn you about the apocalypse at the same time.

Today, we enter the gloriously glitchy world of Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future—a show so ahead of its time, most of the world left it behind.
Created by the legendary Gary Goddard, the same mad genius who brought us Masters of the Universe (yes, the Dolph Lundgren one), this was a dystopian action drama for children… written with the intensity of a cyberpunk manifesto and filmed like it was trying to out-Borg Star Trek before The Next Generation even figured out its pants.

It stars Tim Dunigan as Captain Jonathan Power, a square-jawed techno-hero trying to save humanity from a machine uprising led by the wonderfully named Lord Dread, played by David Hemblen—who chews scenery like it’s a damn five-course meal. You’ll also spot Sven-Ole Thorsen, some actual emotional trauma, and special effects that alternately slap and whimper depending on the budget of the episode.

Why is Captain Power so criminally underrated? Because the world wasn’t ready. It tackled death, PTSD, totalitarianism, and ethical AI… all while yelling ‘INTERACT WITH YOUR TOYS!’ into a VCR. It was canceled after one season because parents freaked out, kids got confused, and executives wanted more explosions and less existentialism.

But we’re here to give it the respect it deserves. Or at least yell lovingly at it.
So whether you’re a die-hard fan, a curious newcomer, or someone who wandered in because the algorithm is drunk again—welcome. Grab your power suit, shield your emotions, and get ready to stream, scream, and maybe cry a little.

This… is Captain Power. And this? This is your new retro obsession.
Let’s get weird.”
