Wells Without Water – II Pet. 2:12-22
It's evident from the first half of this chapter that Peter isn't all that fond of false prophets and teachers. God isn't either, which is why he inspired Peter (through the Holy Spirit) to write this letter. As we get into the text today, we'll see Peter referring to false prophets and teachers as "wells without water". This is a key phrase to remember.
A well without water is like a tree that bears bad fruit. What did we learn last week about identifying false teachers? Look at the fruit. Well, we can look for water, too. If a well is empty, walk away. Also remember that Peter isn't referring to pastors and teachers who make honest mistakes. These false teachers he's referring to know what they are doing. They are purposeful in what they do.
