MILTON, Del. - A new traffic signal has been installed at the intersection of Route 16 and Mulberry Street in Milton, a site that has raised growing safety concerns following a deadly crash earlier this year. Although the light is now standing, it will not be activated until August, according to the Delaware Department of Transportation.

The upgrade comes months after a crash involving a paramedic SUV that killed a 74-year-old woman. At the time, locals expressed frustration over delays in the traffic light installation, which had been postponed by at least six months.

The intersection is currently controlled only by a stop signs on Mulberry Street and Mulberry Street Extended. Drivers on Route 16, meanwhile, are not required to stop.

DelDOT has not set a firm date for when the traffic light will become fully operational.
