India Snubs China, Says No One Except Dalai Lama Can Decide His Successor | Spotlight | N18G

In an apparent snub to China, India’s Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday said that the decision on succession of the Dalai Lama will be taken by the established institution or Dalai Lama himself. Rijiju said the Dalai Lama is the most important and defining institution" for the Buddhists.  The minister’s remarks came a day after China rejected the spiritual leader’s succession plans and insisted that the future heir must receive the country’s seal of approval.
