India vs England 2nd Test Day 3: Smith and Brook Fight Back After Siraj’s Double Blow

On Day 3 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston, England faced early trouble but fought back strongly. In the morning session, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj gave India a big boost by taking two wickets in two balls. He dismissed Joe Root and Ben Stokes in his first over of the day. Root was out for 42, and Stokes got a golden duck (out on the first ball). This left England in serious trouble, looking at the risk of a follow-on.

But England’s young batters Jamie Smith and Harry Brook turned things around. They played positive cricket and started to rebuild the innings. Both completed their half-centuries, and Jamie Smith reached his century in just 80 balls — the fastest of the series so far. At one point, he even hit Prasidh Krishna for 23 runs in a single over.

By the end of 43 overs, England were 228 for 5. They are still far behind India’s massive first-innings total of 587 runs. India had dominated the game on Day 2 thanks to a brilliant double century by captain Shubman Gill. He scored a career-best 269, the highest Test score by an Indian batter in England.

Earlier, Akash Deep had removed the English openers quickly, and Siraj’s two quick wickets put even more pressure on England. However, Smith and Brook’s partnership has given the home team some hope.

India will now look to break this stand and take the remaining wickets quickly. England, on the other hand, will hope this partnership continues and helps them avoid the follow-on. The match is finely balanced, with both teams looking to take control.
