19-year-old Dutch volunteer SS-Sturmmann Gerardus / Gerard Mooijman, who, on 16 February 1943, destroyed 13 Russian armored vehicles with an anti-tank gun during the fighting south of Lake Ladoga, in northwestern Russia. The Führer, Adolf Hitler, awarded him the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Mooijman is the first volunteer from the Germanic countries to receive this decoration.
