Where have all the men gone? We are right here!

The New York Times recently of all places—asked women to call men back, as if we’re some missing delivery service rather than human beings with valid reasons for stepping away. According to the Modern Love essay, many men have “quietly withdrawn from intimacy and vulnerability… not with violence or resistance, but with indifference.” Women are told: “Come back—not with fireworks, but with your whole, beautiful, imperfect heart”.

Well, I’m not surprised—but I’m disappointed. Because if boys, not women, were the ones publicly pleading for men to return from emotional exile, the story would be all over cable TV and Congress would be holding hearings. But since it’s women lamenting male absence, it barely registers as a conversation. That silence speaks volumes about how society values male absence—as a problem only if it inconveniences women, not as a broader symptom of deeper issues.

The essay pins blame on “convenience culture,” digital burnout, and directionless “situationships,” but calling it a cultural shift without addressing why men are retreating is a copout. Economic instability, emotional exhaustion, cultural messaging that labels masculinity dangerous, and fear of false accusations on social media—all are being sidestepped. So instead of “men come back,” we need honest accountability—from institutions, from media, from ourselves.

In this video, we’ll call out the double standard, unpack what’s really pushing men away, and push back on that “we’re all just one heartfelt hug away” narrative that rings hollow when the rest of the world keeps sending them away.
