Could City Secession set a Trend for all of America? (SNSY)

Large cities are beginning to break up due to the rampant dysfunction of larger city governments. St George has split from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Lost Creek has split from Austin, Texas and now La Jolla is working to split from San Diego, California with more possible splits coming down the road. Is this a trend by which cities themselves can be reformed from the corrupt, bloated messes which they have become? Could this then get America more into a mode of thinking locally?
