Turkey: Over 50,000 Evacuated As Firefighters Continue to Battle Raging Wildfires | N18G

Firefighters continue to battle raging wildfires in Turkey for a second day, however, the efforts were hampered by strong winds. Rescuers managed to evacuate over 50,000 people from five regions. To contain the fires, authorities deployed 11 planes, 27 helicopters, and over 1,000 firefighters. The flames also engulfed around 20 houses in the western province of Izmir, while strong winds pushed the fire towards homes in the southern province of Hatay. Meanwhile, the country’s Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc said on the social media platform X that one person had been arrested for allegedly starting one of the wildfires in the Izmir area using gasoline.
