Hunger for the Lord

Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

When there is no hunger, there is no action

Luke 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

I do not want to be on the wrong end of God’s “woes”

When you are full, a nap is desired, sleep

If you consider yourself full, you will not seek more, you are satisfied

Prov 27:7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

We need a hunger for God

When there is abundance, there is no hunger

When there is an ample supply, there is no seeking for more

Ps 42:1 To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Ps 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him

Seek Him with all your heart

Jer 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Jer 29:12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.

Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Jer 29:14 And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

The Holy Ghost will prompt you to hunger for Him

You will need to heed the call

John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Ask the Holy Spirit to make you hungry for the things of God

Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit so that your heart desires Him above all else

Ps 63:1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

Ps 63:2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.

Ps 63:3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.

Ps 63:4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

Ps 63:5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

Ps 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.

Ps 63:7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

Ps 63:8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.

True hunger is from the heart

Ask the Lord for a clean heart

Not one of pride, full of bitterness, or know it all

Humility and hunger to know Him

Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Ps 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

Ps 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Unbelief is the root cause of no hunger

They do not believe God is the answer to their problem or situation

When you believe the Bible contains the answers to your problems,

You read it and seek out those promises

Isa 34:16 Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

When you believe there is healing available

You search for it

When you believe God will meet your financial needs

You search for Him

This faith comes by hearing

But you must have an ear to hear

Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Matt 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

When you are hungry

You altar everything to fill that hunger

Sleeping, you awake and eat

Working, you break and eat

What are you hungry for?

Your actions reveal your heart and your hunger

To believe is a choice

To choose is a discipline

Disciples of Christ are disciplined ones

Luke 21:34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

Luke 21:35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Discipline, choose to seek Him no matter what you feel like

Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Phil 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

Phil 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

Phil 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Phil 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

Phil 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

Phil 3:13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

Phil 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Phil 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Seek out the moving of the Spirit

We must get into and under the presence of God

Guard against haughtiness in your heart

Forgive and keep your heart clean before Father

Cast down evil thoughts against men of women of God, especially ministers

Enjoy the presence of God, in prayer, worship, fellowshipping

Love His word, study, read, hear, confess

Fight the good fight of faith to believe

See His miracles and rejoice!

Testimonies are one major part of the way we overcome

Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Jas 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
