5 Tips to Start and Keep a Daily Bible Reading Habit

I get it. Bible reading time can easily fall through the cracks of a busy schedule, especially when motivation is lacking. But these 5 practical tips help bring Scripture to life and get you excited to find new ways that it connects with your everyday struggles, relationships, and decisions!

1️⃣ Start with short, familiar books. It's not a cop-out if it keeps you in the Word. You may know the stories of Ruth and Esther, but take your time reading every detail and I promise you'll find something you never noticed before.

2️⃣ Choose one verse from your reading to meditate on throughout the day. We both know how easy it is to read a chunk in the morning but forget everything 5 minutes later. Pick one takeaway, write it down, and take it with you to read every break you get.

3️⃣ Talk about it with a friend or mentor. Join a study group, invite some friends to complete a plan on the Bible app with you, or start a daily text thread with an accountability partner. You'll all be encouraged and learn something from one another.

4️⃣ Listen to audio Scripture. If you just plain hate reading, many apps can play a text-to-speech of the passage so you can hear it out loud. You can follow along in your physical Bible or if time doesn't permit, keep the Word in your ears as a replacement for the radio or your Spotify playlist during your commute or chores.

5️⃣ Set a reminder or alarm on your phone for the most open free slot in your schedule each day. Your Bible reading time doesn't have to look like your pastor's or favorite Christian influencer's. You may be most focused and free in the early morning, or maybe it's later at night, or it could even be the middle of the afternoon. Find time that works for YOU and do whatever it takes to stick to it.

What's your favorite tip to stay consistent in daily Bible reading?

Oh yeah, and if you haven't read yet today, close this app and hop to it! 😉
