Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's wedding has been described as the wedding of the century, a lavish affair with Michelin-starred cuisine.

More floor parties and star-studded attendance than the Oscars

The ceremony, which was attended by 200 special guests at the historic church of San Giorgio Maggiore on an island measuring one square kilometer, hosted a total wealth of more than $461 billion, a figure that is larger than the GDP of countries such as South Africa ($380 billion), Denmark ($407 billion) and Bangladesh ($437).

A billion dollars is more.

The combined assets of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, the couple behind the ceremony, are estimated at $263.8 billion, which is more than the entire GDP of New Zealand. For comparison, Greece's GDP is only $243 billion; that's almost half the wealth that was amassed that night on the sparkling waters.

The event, which, according to the Daily Mail, cost over $20 million, was attended by figures from the world of television technology and cinema, and they celebrated until dawn alongside the and channels.

Reports suggest that each plate of food at the party cost $1,000 and that the use of mobile phones was completely banned to maintain the "intimacy" of the event.

Of course, the wedding also faced criticism from local residents who said the lavish ceremony disrupted the peace of the city.
