Frank Costello was one of the most politically connected mob bosses in American history.

Known for his influence in both crime and politics, Costello ran the Luciano (later Genovese) crime family and had judges, police, and politicians on his payroll.

Unlike many gangsters, he preferred diplomacy over violence — earning him the nickname “The Prime Minister of the Underworld.”

His power peaked in the 1940s and ’50s before he survived an assassination attempt and stepped down.
