Meyer Lansky, often called "The Mob's Accountant," was one of the most influential — and underestimated — figures in organized crime.

A brilliant strategist and money manager, Lansky helped build the National Crime Syndicate, laundered millions through offshore casinos, and advised top bosses from Lucky Luciano to Bugsy Siegel.

Despite his deep ties to Cosa Nostra and the Jewish mob, Lansky managed to avoid serious prison time and died a free man.
