Remains of Edo Castle, Tokyo, A snowy day in January 2022

Winter in Tokyo is generally sunny and has low humidity, but there are rare days when it snows, and the snowfall can reach several inches.

Tokyo has been the political centre of Japan since 1603, and a huge medieval-style castle was built there. At that time, this city was called "Edo".
During the 19th century, as Japan was transforming into a modern nation, almost all of the government buildings in this castle were destroyed. However the walls are so sturdy that they have been preserved to this day. Part of the Edo Castle grounds surrounded by the walls is used as the residence of the current royal family, while other parts are open to the public and used as a park. This park is also a commuter route for people who work in the city center.
