The Alphabet (1968)

A surreal, experimental short film by David Lynch that combines animation and live action to explore a young girl's nightmare about learning the alphabet. Lasting just over four minutes, the film depicts abstract imagery, disturbing sound design, and unsettling voiceovers as the girl descends into a psychological breakdown. As the letters of the alphabet morph into frightening symbols, the film becomes a meditation on the anxiety and fear associated with education and childhood. Dark, cryptic, and dreamlike, The Alphabet is an early glimpse into Lynch’s unique vision and obsession with the subconscious.
