Sixty years ago, another enormously popular genre series, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E.," alongside its spinoff sister series, "The Girl From U.N.C.L.E.," began facing meteoric ratings competition from a deliberately farcical comic book series: the iconic "Batman," starring Adam West. Panicked, the producers of the U.N.C.L.E. franchise abruptly shifted the dark and gritty tone of the 1960s spy-fi series into a satirical farce--alienating its devoted fan base and resulting in the premature cancellation of a former ratings juggernaut. In 2025, under the canon-averse tutelage of Alex Kurtzman and Alex Goldsman, is "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" about to repeat those same mistakes of TV history?
