I hiked on an active railroad track and then on a pipeline to see THIS | Hood River, Oregon

Have you ever hiked on a railroad before? What about hiking on a pipeline? Neither have I. Until I adventured out to Hood River, Oregon, and hiked on the Hood River Pipeline Trail. The first part of this trail is along a railroad used by the Mt. Hood Railroad. The Mt. Hood Railroad offers scenic train rides for an unforgettable journey through the scenic valleys of the Columbia River Gorge in the shadow of Mt. Hood. The second part of this trail is on a pipeline.

I parked next to the decommissioned Powerdale Powerhouse, which supplied electricity to the town of Hood River before a 2006 flood destroyed the dam upstream. Before the 2006 flood damage, this pipe carried water from the Powerdale Dam to the power station. The dam was removed in 2010 and the Hood River now flows unrestricted. Much of the pipeline is gone as well. What remains is empty and exists only for the novelty of walking on it. A metal catwalk runs along the top of the pipeline, making the journey safe and easy.

There were a few surprises on this trail which made the hike an absolute banger. On such a beautiful day, I had my drone with me and got some fantastic footage. Check it out!

From 2015 to 2019, I traveled the United States extensively spending time at 24 national parks and countless state parks. Unfortunately, I took no video footage of the hundreds of trails I hiked and the backpacking I did, only a ton of pictures. So I decided it was time to make some videos and take you along with me as I explore the Pacific Northwest.
