Phra Pathom Chedi

Phra Pathom Chedi, located in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, is the tallest stupa in the country and a significant Buddhist monument. It stands at 120 meters tall with a base circumference of 235.50 meters. The chedi is situated 50 km west of Bangkok and is a major Buddhist landmark in Thailand, rich in historical and religious significance.

The chedi was modeled after the Great Stupa of Sanchi in India and houses relics of the Buddha. It is also known as the first holy stupa, a name given by King Mongkut. The origins of the chedi are linked to the Dvaravati period, and it is considered one of the oldest Buddhist structures in Southeast Asia.

Visitors can explore the temple complex from 7 am to 8 pm daily, with the museum open from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission fees apply at the ticket booth (60 Baht for foreigners and free to Thai nationals). The chedi is easily accessible from Bangkok, with options to take a train, bus, or hire a local taxi.

The site also includes a museum showcasing artifacts from excavations in Nakhon Pathom, including stone carvings and Buddhist relics dating back to the Dvaravati era.

The chedi is a place of pilgrimage and cultural significance, offering a unique and awe-inspiring experience for visitors.

This is one of the 23 first class royal temples and a great day trip from Bangkok to see.
