The Russian S-500 Prometheus air defense system has a reported maximum engagement range of approximately 800 km (497 miles) for anti-ballistic missile (ABM) roles and 700 km (435 miles) for air defense roles, such as intercepting stealth aircraft, cruise missiles, and hypersonic targets. It can engage targets at altitudes up to 220–240 km (137–149 miles). The system is designed to neutralize a wide range of threats, including ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles traveling at speeds Mach 20+, low-orbit satellites, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
